Batal Antique opened its doors in 1965 as a single room of carefully chosen pieces. Six decades later, the standard has not moved: we acquire only what we would keep.
Every piece is sourced in person, authenticated, and restored by hand in our own atelier never stripped of the patina that took a century to earn.

Our story
We have never sold an object we did not first fall in love with.
In 1965, Batal opened a small showroom in Beirut and filled it with what they could carry: a pair of giltwood mirrors, three chairs, and a chandelier they had rewired themselves. They sold none of it for two years. They were waiting for the right homes.
That patience became the house rule. Today the third generation of the family runs the gallery, and the work is unchanged travel, look, authenticate, restore, wait. We buy perhaps one piece in forty that we are shown.
Our atelier restores in the traditional way: hide glue, hand cut veneer, shellac polished in the palm. Nothing is sanded back to look new. A century of use is not damage, it is provenance.

A complete Continental dinner and tea service in deep Bordeaux and hand-applied gold gilt, each piece bordered in the same scrolling foliate work and hand-painted rose reserve. Nine matching pieces are shown below — dinnerware, a rimmed soup bowl, tea and coffee cups and saucers (each a genuinely different shape), a teapot, covered tureen, sugar bowl, creamer and an oval serving platter.
